Accounting Manager – Law Firm

Location: Downtown Los Angeles

Our client is a National Law Firm seeking an experienced (and hands-on) Accounting Manager to join the management team and provide strategic oversight and daily operational hands-on management of the Accounting and Client Accounting Departments. In addition, the Accounting Manager will work closely with the Office Administrator to co-manage the Catering, Fitness and Travel departments. They are looking for an individual with experience in FP&A, budgeting, management and operations with a proven record of establishing strategies for optimizing operations, financial objectives, cost reduction and process improvements.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and direct the daily operations and strategic initiatives for the Accounting & Client Accounting departments – accounts payable, accounts receivable, budgets, billing, cash management and escrow/trust accounts
  • Manage and develop a team of 9 Accounting and Client Accounting professionals
  • Prepare/review and oversee the annual budgeting process for operating expenses, headcount and capital budgets
  • Review monthly variance reports and provide budget vs. actual variances analysis to Senior Management
  • Review, develop and implement processes for improvement and cost management for the office
  • Develop analysis and reporting metrics to assist with financial management, workflow and operational results for the Los Angeles office.  Work with department managers to create operational metrics for various departments
  • Financial management of operating expenses and ongoing advice for Senior Management
  • Evaluate internal processes and controls for the Accounting & Client Accounting departments and recommend areas for improvement to prevent and detect errors and ensure compliance with firm policies and procedures
  • Work with our New York Team regarding payables and respond to inquiries about payables, variances, billing and etc.
  • Work with the Office Administrator to co-manage the operations for the catering and travel departments (external vendors) 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree in Accounting, Finance and/or equivalent prior work experience
  • MBA preferred
  • 7-10 years of accounting/financial experience with a minimum of 5-8 years of direct managerial/supervisory experience
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (written, oral and presentation) with an ability to engage with all levels including staff, attorneys, partners and senior management
  • Possess exceptional organizational skills and the ability to multi-task
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt quickly in a changing, fast-paced environment
  • Willingness to contribute to corporate objectives and improve operations across functional and organizational lines

Salary: 125,000 – 145,000
